The HUNGERFORD family of Maryland has been found to be a DNA match to the Thomas Hungerford
line of Connecticut. Thomas Hungerford died about 1663 in New London, CT. The results below
are from tests done with Relative Genetics. The Thomas Hungerford results listed below
are the modal through Thomas I, Thomas II, and then Thomas II's sons John and Green.
Descendants of Thomas II's son Thomas III do not match, and it is believed there was a
non-paternity event with Thomas III.

1. Charles Co., MD land records A:243-244. William SMOOT assigned land to William BARTON, Jr. and Thomas Smoot on 28 Jan. 1658 [1658/9?]. The implication would be that William BARTON had married Anne (Smoot) the widow Hungerford by that time. They were certainly married by Nov. 1658, for William Barton, Jr. and Anne (Smoot) Hungerford had a daughter Grace born in Aug. 1659. [See source #14 on Smoot page.] 2. Archives of Maryland 41:469. 3. Estimate from births of children of William Barton by his second wife Mary. 4. William Hungerford will, Charles Co., MD wills 2:248-250. 5. William Hungerford account, Charles Co., MD Administration Accounts 1708-1738, pp. 43-44. 11. Charles Co., MD land records M2:269-270. Thomas Lucas and wife Anne in 1731 sold 50 acres, part of the tract formerly called Johnsons Choice to John Neale [husband of Elizabeth Hungerford]. William Hungerford in #4 had left 150 acres Johnsons Choice and 250 acre Smoots Choice to his four sons, and if any should die without issue, their portion was to pass successively to his daughters Ann, Elizabeth, and Mary. No previous sale of the tract exists. It is not stated in the deed but the only right Thomas Lucas and wife Anne would have would be if she were Anne HUNGERFORD, and had received a part due to the death of her brother Thomas in 1724. See also #16. 12. Frederick Co., MD deeds B:405-407, FHL microfilm 0,013,936. 13. Thomas Lucas will, MD wills 1:483-484. 14. Thomas Lucas and wife Anne in 1721 sold all right in 45 acres Smootes Choice to Thomas Hungerford. Not stated, but Thomas Lucas' right was apparently from the death of either (or both) his wife Anne's brothers William and John. See also #11. 17.
