Joseph FIELD had no known will or estate settlement. Joseph was among a group of NC Loyalists paid at NY, he being paid from 5 Feb. 1776 to 27 Oct. 1778.14 The last record found for him is on 23 Feb. 1778 when Commissioners for Guilford Co. sold 33 sheep, 11 cows, 1 calf, 13 steers, 4 yearlings, 1 heifer, and 7 young cattle, the property of William and Joseph Fields, they being Loyalitst. Col. James Martin bought for 250 pounds, 198 acres formerly Joseph Fields property.15 In the summer of 1780 a band of NC Loyalists were recruited, that were all killed or captured at the Battle of King's Mountain. It is belived Joseph was among those Loyalists killed. Biographical information on Joseph FIELD There is evidence to support that he and Lydia JULIAN had at least the following children: 1. Peter FIELDS20,32 m. Charlotte VICKERY 1788;26 d. 1816 Guilford Co., NC27 2. Jeremiah FIELD32 3. Mary FIELD17 b. 24 Sep. 1770;17,29 m. James PARSONS;17 d. 30 Jan. 1820 bur. In a 1776 petition, Lyde Field, Mary Field, Lyde Field, and Ann Field (among others) signed a petition for the release of their husbands William, Robert, Joseph and Jeremiah Field, who were taken prisoner (other records show they voluntarily turned themselves in) shortly before the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. Records cited above show the names of the wives of William, Robert, and Jeremiah. By elimination, Joseph was married to a "Lyde." 6. F.J.C Hertzog & Rosa M. She stated much of her section on the Armield family was taken from information written at the dictation of Joseph B. Armfield (son of William Armfield and Lydia Julian) "about twenty-five years ago." [about 1877] by his grandson G. Will Armfield of Greensboro. Lydia Short, born NC, age "13" [sic, should be 73] in household. 20. These 5 children can not be placed among the named heirs of John, William, or Jeremiah in their wills, or the estate papers of Robert. John did name a daughter Ann in his will, but she has not been proved as identical to the Ann who married James Coltrane. Through elimination as not being children of the other 4 brothers, they are thought to be children of Joseph and Lydia. Mary is a proved child of Joseph and Lydia through the Parsons Bible. (see #17) Peter is listed as a child in information dictated by Joseph B. Armfield. (see #11 and #32) Additional evidence for the others is centered around associations with William Armfield who would have been their step-father, and the given names Peter and Patience, names not found among known descendants of the other 4 Field brothers. a. Peter is not used among other Field lines, and is believed to come from Lydia Julian's father, Peter Julian. b. Among the children of Patience were ones named Peter and Lydia. c. The bondsman for Ann's marriage was "William Armfield, Senr." the man who married Lydia (Julien) Field. d. Among the children of Ann were ones named Lydia, Joseph, and Patience. e. Nancy Coltrane is buried next to Mary Parsons [see #28] f.
