Joseph Bennett his Last Will
     In the name of God, amen I Joseph Bennett Senr of St. Marys County
in the State of Maryland being sick and weak of body, but of sound mind &
memory, do make this my last will & Testament in manner & form following.
     Item I give & bequeath to my son William Bennett, one Negro Man named
Charles to him & his heirs forever.
     Item I give & bequeath unto my three sons, William Joseph & Richard,
my Copper Still and all the implements thereunto belonging, to be equally
among them in full of their partsof my Estate.
     Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Margaret, now the wife of
Thomas Biscoe one shilling sterling in full of her part of my Estate.
     Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Jemima, now the wife of James
Smoot, one shilling sterling, in full of her part of my Estate.
     Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Mary, one heifer, with Calf,
and two grown Sheep & one feather Bed, in full of her part of my Estate.
     Item My will is, that the remaining part of my Estate of what kind
so ever it be, be equally divided amongst my four Children Viz Rebecca,
Brittannia, Elisabeth Smith, & Ann, to them & their heirs forever.  
     And I do Consitute & appoint my son Joseph Bennett, Executor of this
my last will & Testament, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
& affixed my my Seal, acknowledging this to be my last will & Testament,
hereby revoking all other will by me heretofoe made.

On the Back of the foregoing was as follows, to wit, Saint Marys County,
to wit, the 22d of January 1789 Then came Joseph Bennett & made oath on
the holy evangels of almighty God that the within Instrument of writing, is
the true & whole will and Testament of Joseph Bennett, late of Saint Marys
County, deceased that hath come to his hands or possession & that he do not
know of any other.

Saint Marys County ss. the 22d day of January 1789
Then came Ignatius Biscoe and Joseph Bird, two of the subscribing witnesses
to the within last will & Testament of Joseph Bennett, late of Saint Marys
County, deceased, and severally under oath on the holy evangels of almighty
God, that they did see The Testator therein named, Sign & Seal this will,
and that they heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his
last will and Testament; that at the time of his doing so, he was to the
best of their apprehensions of sound & disposing mind, memory and under-
standing; and that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses
to this will, in the presence, and at the request of the testator, and in
the presence of each other; and also, that they did see Richard Barnhouse
subscribe the same.
