In the name of God amen. I John Smoot Senr of St. Marys County and State
of Maryland being sick & weak in body but of sound & perfect mind & memory,
thanks be to almighty God for it, thearfore do make & ordain this writing
to be my last will & Testament.
First I give my Sole unto the hands of almighty God that gave it me &
my body to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors here
after named by me and for my worldly goods I dispose of as followeth.
Item I give & bequeath unto my beloved Sun Caleb Smoot one Negro man
named Abraham, which he has in percestion & that to be his full part of
my Estate besides what he has had before.
Item I give my beloved Sun William Smoot (chi)ld Monica, & one negro
named Sarah which he has in percestion with sundry other things which has
before & an equal part of my Estate not willed.
Item I give my beloved daughter Elinder Price, one Negro named Lidie
which she has in persession with sundry other things she has had before,
it being her full of my Estate.
Item I also give & bequeath unto my grand sun John Smoot Price one
negro boy named Matthias.
Item I give my beloved daughter Ann Barhous two Negroes named Mary &
Joseph, which she has in persession, with sundry other things, which she
has had before and it being her full part of my Estate.
Item I give & bequeath unto my sun Thomas Smoot, one negro man named
Robert & one negro named Stacy & one feather Bed & furniture & one Cow &
Calf & an equal part of my Estate not willed.
Item I give & bequeath unto my daughter Elisabeth Smoot one negro woman
named Rachall & her young Child named Anna, & one negro named Linder, &
one negro named Lettes, and feather Bed & furniture, & one Cow & Calf, &
one one years old hors Colt named (R?)ebell, & one Linnen wheall, & one
large walnut Table & an equal part of my Estate not willed.
Item I give & bequeath unto my son Ezekiah too negroes, one named
Susannah, & the other James, & one boy Man Called Pleasure, & one Cow &
Calf, & one fether Bed & furniture, & one young Sow, and an equall part
of my Estate not willed.
Item I give and bequeath unto my sun Elecstander Smoot, two negroes,
one named Margret and the Charles, & one Sorrel mare Colt Called Saturday,
& one Cow & Calf, and one fether Bed & furniture, & an equal part of my
Estate not willed.
Item I give & bequeath unto my grandaughter Auny Smoot one negro Gal
Called young Monica & if she should die without any Child of her one body,
this negro Gal Monica to returne unto her two Sisters Susanah & Ellinor
Smoot & that to be thar full part of my Estate.
Item I give & bequeath unto my two grand Children named Barton Smoot
& James Smoot, one shilling sterling each & that to be thar full part of
my Estate.
Item I give & bequeath unto my grand daughter Mary Smoot one negro
boy named Jeremiah & that to be her full part of my Estate.
Item I give & bequeath unto my grand Children John Smoot, Georg Smoot,
William Read Smoot, and Sarah Smoot, one shilling sterling each, & that
to be thar full part of my Estate. And my will is that if any of my
Children should bring any account against my Estate, it should be taken
out of thar parts of what I have willed them, and my will also is that
my Corn, wheat & Meat shall be made use of in my family whel my Crop is
finished & my Crop to be devided between Esekiah & Elisabeth Smoot and
they to pay the Rent out of my Crop. And I doe Constitute & appoint my
sun Thomas Smoot & my daughter Elisabeth Smoot and they to be my hole
& Sole Executors of this my last will & Testament as witness I have
hearunto set my hand & Seal this twentieth sixth day of October anno
Domini Seventeen hundred & Eighty nine.
