Thomas MOODY secondly married Mary, whose maiden name may have been WITTY.
She was born probably in the 1750s. She may have secondly married Robert
SCOTT and be the wife Mary named in his 1791 Guilford County will.6 He also
left 10 pounds, his saddle and bridle to Thomas MOODY.

Thomas MOODY participated at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse when he was
over age 70. His Revolutionary War service was documented by a letter from

What follows is chart of Moody DNA matches. The first two listed are Isaac and Elijah,
sons of Thomas L. MOODY, and grandsons of Thomas the immigrant by his second wife. They
closely match a descendant of Alexander Moody of Guilford County, who tested with another
company, so not all the same markers were tested by both companies. Alexander was not
listed as a son of Thomas in source #4, but the DNA match proves he is related. He is
likely either a son of Thomas, or a nephew that also came over.

Thomas is a close match to other Irish Moody lines of #42 and #74, the main differences
being on the fast changing markers of 570, CDYa, and CDYb. The markers in orange of 36/39
act as branch markers for the NC Moody branch. Likewise, #4 and #19 are closely related
to each other. Both also share 13 on 442, which does not mutate as rapidly as those
markers in red.

Thomas L. MOODY was the bondsman on 1 July 1829 in Shelby Co., TN for the marriage of Joseph IVANS and Mariah ROBERTSON, and on 26 July 1830 for William CARTER and Elizabeth LOVELL. Thomas L. MOODY secondly married in Shelby Co., TN to Nelly HANNAH, having a marriage bond there on 5 March 1830, with the J.P.'s return that they married 9 June. His signature on the three Shelby Co., TN bonds11 is an exact match for his signature on an 1821 bastardy bond of Samuel THOMPSON in Guilford Co., NC where Thomas L. MOODY was his security,12 and in Guilford County for the 1827 marriages of Isaac N. MOODY (his son) to Jane McCUISTION and Elvis GRESHAM to Fanny JUSTICE, where he signed as bondsman. In the 1830 Shelby Co., TN census, T.L. MOODY was age 50-60, with 2 females, one presumably his new wife also in the household. Note that the Bible of his son Elijah W. MOODY stated his mother Thankful died 21 Dec. 1830.10 As this is after Thomas L. married Nelly HANNAH, the most likely explanation is that the date was recorded years after the event, probably after Elijah was married in 1836. As Thankful died in late December, most likely it was actually in 1829 and remembered incorrectly as 1830. Biographical information on Thomas L. MOODY. Known children of Thomas L. Moody (proved son of Thomas and Thankful, see #10) and Isaac Newton Moody, and named a son Elijah Wittie Moody while living in Henry County. Moody (1301/1301) in Wilson Co. in 1850, included Ezekiel C. Witty (1299/1299) and Vivant Bevill and wife Tabitha Witty (1298/1298) Tabitha was a daughter of Elijah Witty of Guilford Co., NC by his second wife, and Ezekiel C. was a son of Elijah by his first wife. Elijah Witty was a near neighbor of Thomas L. Moody in Guilford Co., NC, and it is believed Elijah was an uncle to Thomas L. Moody. Ezekiel C. Witty had settled in Wilson Co., TN by 1817 when he married Mary Allison. This relation is what probably led John R. Moody to settle in Wilson Co., where he married Ezekiel's wife Mary's sister Cassander Allison in 1827. f. John R., Isaac N. and Elijah W. all named sons Timothy. g. Both John R. and Elijah W. had sons named Robert A. 17. F. E. Stroud Bible family pages.
