Bendicht MARTI was married on 11 Dec. 1620 to Stini [Christina] PFANDER at
Rüeggisberg, Canton Bern, Switzerland.1  Bendicht was nicknamed the "Nüw MARTI."
On 22 December 1633 “Benedict MARTI alias the nüw Marti” was a sponsor for
Hans GILGEN and Elsbeth RORHBACH. He was also a sponsor on 9 August 1635
as “Bendict MARTI alias the Nüw,” on 21 March 1641 as “Bendicht MARTI the
nuw,” and on 9 May 1641 as “Benedicht MARTI the Neün.”2

Bendicht MARTI and Christina PFANDER were the parents of six children, all
baptized at Rüeggisberg.  For the last three, they were listed as residents of
"Hinderfultingen" [Hinterfultigen], a village within the church parish of Rüeggisberg.

Bendicht MARTI who married Elsbath SCHÄREN is proved as the son of
Bendicht MARTI and wife Christina PFANDER by his marriage record.  In that
record, he was called "the Neünen MARTIs son."  The only MARTI found in the
Rüeggisberg records referred to as the "Neu" MARTI is Bendicht MARTI.  

There was another Bendicht MARTI who was baptized on 23 May 1624, the son
of a Bendicht MARTI and wife Anna LEEMANN.  That the younger Bendicht
was not the one who married Elsbeth SCHÄREN, and his father the Bendicht who
was the "Neu" MARTI is shown in that when Bendicht MARTI and wife Anna
LEEMANN had a son Christen baptized on 26 July 1635, he was called
"Bencicht MARTI the Ober."

Julius Billeter incorrectly identified the Bendicht MARTI who married Elsbeth
SCHÄREN as the son of Marti Marti and wife Elsbeth GILGEN.6  That is
disproved by Bendicht's marriage record.

In their marriage record, Elsbeth SCHÄREN was stated to be from Guggisberg.

For the last four, they were listed as residents of Hinterfultigen.
