In the name of God Amen I George Read the Elder of the parish of St.
Andrewe in high Holborne in the Countie of Midd. Innholder being sick in
body but of sound and perfect mind and memory the Lord of his great
mercy be praised therefore revoking all former Wills by me att any time
heretofore made doe make constitute and ordaine this to be my last Will
and Testament in manner and forme following vizt.
Imprimis I give and bequeath my soule unto the hands of Allmighty
God my maker trusting only by and through the death and passion of Jesus
Christ my Saviour to have remission for all my sins and be made partake
of the hevinly Kingdom My body I comitt to the earth to be decently
buried att the discretion of Mary Read my loving wife whom I doe make
Sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament And as for all the
worldly estate wherewith the Lord in great mercy hath blessed me with
all I will give and dispose in manner and forme as hereafter followith.
Imprimis I give and bequeath unto the foresaid Mary Read my loving
wife the better to enable her to pay my debts and for her better lively
hood all my goods and chattles whatsoever and of what nature or kind
forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest sonne George Read the
remainder of ------ yet to come and unexpired in the house in which he
now dwelleth situated in (Bengtilds?) rents neare unto Grays Inne Lane to
him and his assigns under the yerely rent of one penny if it be lawfullie
(demanded?) ---- ----- -----ing free Land Lying in the parish of St. Andrewe
Holborn in London by the ditchside which I purchased of John Baker. I doe
give and bequeath after the decease of my four Said Loveing wife Mary Read
I give and bequeath the said freehould Land and Tenements unto my youngest
sonne John Read and to his heirs for ever And if it fortune my sonne
John Read to dye without issue of his body lawfully begotten Then I will
give and devise the foresaide freehould Lands and Tenements to be sould
and the money thereof arising to be part & divided amongst all my
grandchildren that shall be then living share and share like.
Item I give unto my youngest daughter Suzanna Read the Sum of Two
hundred pounds to be paid unto her as my Executrix shalbe able to raise
the Same out of my estate provided that she marry with the consent of
her mother my loving wife.
Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Roberts my daughter in regard her
portion was the least the sum of twenty pounds to be paid as my Executrix
shalbe able to raise the Same not preindering herselfe.
Item I give unto my daughter Margery Fleminge the Sum of twenty
shillings to buy her a ring to weare in remembrance of me. All the rest
of my estate of what nature or kind soever I doe wholey give and bequeath
unto Mary my Loveing wife whom I doe nominate and appointe Sole
Executrix of this my Last Will and Testament nothing doubting but that
she will faithfully for this my Will performed as my trust & confidence
is reposed in her. And I nominate John Read my kinsman and Humfrey
Wiggan my Loveing neighbour for my Overseers entrusting them to be
ayding and assisting unto my Executrix in the performance of this my
Last Will and Testament in witness whereof the Said George Read the
elder have to this my (present?) Last will putt my hand and Seale this
Sixth day of September in the yeare of the rainge of our Sovereigne Lord
Charles by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland
King the one and twentith ----- ----- 1645. The marke of George
Read the elder Sealed subscribed & published and declared by the said
George Read the elder for his last Will and Testament in the presence of
